Stoke Road, Bletchley

Stoke Road, Bletchley, Milton Keynes 2004 — present

presentation_layoutAxis Design Collective won an invited competition for the development of 94 canal side apartments, townhouses and bungalows in the Bletchley area of Milton Keynes. The development was derived from a very detailed set of development design codes that stipulated building heights, frontage treatments and materials to be used.

The Axis proposal maximises existing views across the site whilst creating a new low density village setting incorporating communal gardens, a village green and a a play area, all linked by a canal side walk. The development is intended to provide a new focus for the surrounding area and further enhance the existing local character.

A strong sustainability agenda was utilised on this project, incorporating extensive use of ‘room in the roof’, and passive solar low energy design whilst maintaining a strong rural character, with the vernacular of the buildings being drawn from the surrounding area creating a hierarchy of spaces and events as the development addresses the canal.

The Axis submission was made in collaboration with Lovell Partnerships and English Partnerships.
